Schools Done; So, What’s Cooking on the Job Front?

by:Amanda Shoemake

You've finally done it! You've cooked, baked and sautéed your way through weeks of school. Congratulations!

But, now what? What should you do with the wonderful degree you have recently acquired? Culinary school has prepped and primed you to enter a world full of flavors, scents and techniques, but have you given any thought to where you want to work?

When it comes to food-related jobs you'll find that the culinary job market is just as diverse as the recipes in a cookbook. But, how do you know which one to choose? Fear not my fellow gastronomist, there are simple ways to narrow down your choices.

Ask yourself: Do you see yourself in a fast-paced kitchen? Perhaps your more fond of teaching others? Or, maybe you see yourself as a food stylist? Maybe you want to be in charge of your own kitchen? Or, perhaps you are interested in writing about food? Think about what setting would fulfill your culinary desires.

With all that goes on in the culinary world, there is that perfect job that reflects your personal style and will allow you to expand on your newly acquired knowledge. Whether you choose to work in a restaurant, cater functions or assist people there is bound to be something that will wet your palate.

Luckily, when it comes to food the sky is the limit. With jobs ranging from the application of cooking to the science of making a great recipe, there is always going to be something new to explore.
